“Do you feel the same connection?”
“Not with the same intensity you do. I should be in control, not taking advant—”
She cut her hand in the air and he shut up. Her anger was palpable between them.
“And so, because of this bond, I woke up from a nightmare and couldn’t help but throw myself at you in lust. And you, in turn, aren’t really attracted to me. You just did me a service?”
His gaze jerked back up to her soft lips and the half-smile that played there. “Wait, what?” How the hell had she come up with that assumption? “No, that’s not what I meant.”
“Look here, honey. No one knows my body better than I do. Let me explain something to you. When I was a kid, they told me that my love of bread was related to a love of convenience over nutrition. As a teenager, when I indulged in chocolate cake or ice-cream, I was eating my emotions. Then into adulthood I must have self-esteem problems or suffer from laziness since I still have more curves than society thinks I should. You know what I think about that, wolf-man?”
His gaze rose to her eyes. They were almost solid yellow. The change was coming soon, and her aggression teased and brought out the alpha lust in his wolf. “No, but I bet you’ll tell me.” His voice was thick and husky.
When she put her hand on her hip, the jersey lifted, showing off more of her creamy thighs. “I think it’s all bullshit. I eat chocolate because it’s my favorite fucking food group next to wine and pizza. My ass moves on a daily basis, but I don’t kill myself at the gym because I like my body just the way it is. So don’t you dare tell me that the urge to jump your bones is from some stupid bond-mate thing that I don’t believe in. I’ve lusted after you since I saw your bare ass in that train. It may be fucked up, but there you go. So don’t pretend you want me just to help me through my transition or whatever you call it. I don’t need a pity fuck.”
A growl left his throat immediately. She thought he didn’t want her body? How had he said the wrong thing? He clenched his fists and tried to rein back the wolf, but it was almost impossible. She was pushing him, denying their connection.
“No one tells me how I feel or why I do what I do and I’ll be damned if I’m going to let you get away with it.”
